San Diego : UCSD Students Protest Tuition Rise

UC San Diego students demonstrated Friday afternoon against proposed tuition increases they say would hurt minority enrollment, a spokeswoman said.
About 100 students attended the noon rally, held at the student center to protest the 24% increase, which is scheduled to be voted on in April, said Sarah Valdovinos, spokeswoman for the university’s Associated Students organization.
The group is concerned that the tuition increase, which would raise fees from $2,274 a year to $2,824 a year, would most acutely affect minority and low-income students who are unable to pay the extra money, Valdovinos said.
The protest was part of a statewide action by University of California students, who held simultaneous demonstrations against the increase, Valdovinos said.
