FLICKS FILM AND VIDEO FILE : Europe Then, Now : Kenneth Richter has put together a tour as it could have been taken in 1892.
If you are interested in finding out what European travel was like a century ago, you may want to check out the movie “Grand Tour of Europe, 1892,†by Kenneth Richter. It will be shown Sunday at the Oxnard Civic Auditorium as part of the facility’s ongoing “Adventure Travel Film Series.â€
In case you are wondering if Richter is 120 years old, he isn’t. Rather, he put together a tour he could have taken then and can still take today.
His itinerary began with a trip across the Atlantic Ocean by ship. He made stops at Marseilles, Cannes, Paris, the Monte Carlo casino, Trevi Fountain and the Forum in Rome, St. Mark’s Square in Venice, the Sultan Ahmad Mosque in Istanbul, the Weis Church in Bavaria, and Dresden, Berlin and Bruges.
The auditorium is at 800 Hobson Way. The film will be shown at 2 p.m. Tickets are $6.50. For more information call 486-2424.
Note to video renters: A 6,000-square-foot Blockbuster Video store opened recently at the Mountain Gate Plaza shopping center in Simi Valley. Another Blockbuster is scheduled to open in Camarillo at the beginning of April.
Speaking of video stores, here are some of the more interesting new releases scheduled to be on the shelves in March:
“Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare†was scheduled to be out yesterday. “Barton Fink†should be out today, “Boyz N the Hood†is scheduled for release next Wednesday, “An American Tail: Fievel Goes West†is scheduled for March 25 and “The Fisher King†and “Rambling Rose†are set for March 25.
Tonight’s family film night at the Ray D. Prueter Library in Port Hueneme will feature the videos “Charlie Needs a Cloak†and “Ramona†both based on children’s literature.
“Charlie Needs a Cloak,†from the book illustrated by Tomie dePaola, tells the story about a shepherd who replaces his tattered cloak with a new, homemade one made from his sheep’s wool.
“Ramona†is based on the stories of the same name by author Beverly Cleary. This video will focus on two adventures in the life of the girl named Ramona. They are titled “Mystery Meal†and “Rainy Sunday.â€
The presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free. The library is located at 510 Park Ave.
