In another Division II game
Carlsbad 73, Valhalla 62--Second-seeded Carlsbad led by 20 midway through the fourth quarter. The Lancer’s Kewan Shariff scored 11 of his game-high 26 points in the fourth quarter. Chad Nelson added 18 points for Carlsbad (22-6). Sophomore guard Beau Sager scored 17 points and senior forward Wayne Sippial 11 for Valhalla (21-8).
Division I
Mt. Carmel 79, Fallbrook 72--Third-seeded Mt. Carmel staged a 25-16 fourth quarter to overcome Palomar League rival Fallbrook at Mt. Carmel. No. 6 Fallbrook (19-9) took the lead early in the second quarter--was up 42-30 at halftime--and didn’t lose it until early in the fourth quarter. That’s when Mt. Carmel’s Derrick Wessel took charge, scoring 10 of his team-high 24 points, including five free throws.
Fallbrook’s Chris Miller, a Times’ All-County selection as a junior last year, scored a game-high 27 points but fouled out with 3:25 left and his team trailing by one, 64-63.
Scott Schoenwald had 17 points and Chris Goode 10 for Mt. Carmel (18-9). Fallbrook’s Chad Lemons scored 14 points and Brandon Phillips 13.
Vista 104, Rancho Buena Vista 85--Vista wrapped up this up-tempo contest behind 31 points from Shane Jager, 25 from Jason Barnes, 17 from Nils Michals and 11 from Dave Enger. The fifth-seeded Panthers (17-10) took advantage of a number of open layups, raced to a 31-24 lead.
Mike Ross scored 21 to lead RBV (12-17). James VanderVeur added 15 and Evan Osmundson 14.
Division IV
Christian 42, Bishop’s 38--John Culbertson scored 16 points to lead the fourth-seeded Patriots (19-8) over The Bishop’s School (16-9).
