Olympic Trials Attract Seven Area Swimmers
Seven area swimmers are expected to compete in weeklong trials for berths on the U.S. Olympic team, beginning Sunday in Indianapolis.
Individual medley and breaststroke specialist Kristine Quance and distance freestyler Alexis Larsen will represent Calabasas-based CLASS Aquatics in the trials, which are also the spring national championships.
Quance, 16, of Granada Hills, is ranked second in the world in the 200-meter breaststroke.
Backstroker Jason Stelle and distance freestyler Chris Baskett also train with CLASS Coach Bud McAllister, but they will represent their college teams, USC and Stanford.
Ben Swartout (distance freestyle) qualified from the Buenaventura team, Lindsay Gassner (freestyle sprinter) will represent Canyons Aquatics and Courtney Lowe (butterfly) of Thousand Oaks will compete with the UC Santa Barbara team.
