Both games--No. 1-seeded San Diego against Patrick Henry and No. 2 Mira Mesa against Poway--were postponed. All four teams arrived at the scheduled site, Coronado High, only to find an unusable field.

San Diego Coach Milton Hidalgo said he was particularly upset when he found the crossbars to be three inches short of regulation. He also said the middle of the field had no grass and that three bare sprinkler heads added the potential of danger.

“The referee showed up and said, ‘No way, you guys can’t play here,’ †Hidalgo said.
