OUTLOOK
Mitchell returns for his second season with a small nucleus of good players from a team that finished second in the league, only one game behind champion Brea-Olinda. But Mitchell is concerned with his team’s inexperience; the Rebels lost seven seniors, including most of the infield and two outfielders. “The big question mark with us is how we will respond when we’re challenged,†Mitchell said. Lindop, an outfielder when he’s not pitching, is the team’s top all-around threat. He batted .267 with 15 RBIs last season, and was the team’s No. 3 pitcher behind Andy Trumper and Rob Crabtree, who have since graduated. Mitchell said promoting Brede and Crockwell from the junior varsity should give the Rebels some decent offense. Brede hit .360 and Crockwell batted .290 for the junior varsity last season. “We play good defense and I think our pitching is solid with Lindop and Krier,†Mitchell said. The coach is cautiously optimistic about the Rebels’ chances this season. “Brea-Olinda, Anaheim and Valencia are the teams to beat,†he said. “The league should be pretty well balanced. A lot of the teams lost key starters and are going to have to rebuild.â€
