OUTLOOK

The Wildcats are the two-time defending league champions, but don’t expect them to run away with the title this season. Only two games separated the Wildcats from fourth place last season, and they return about half of last year’s team, but only four players with substantial varsity experience. “I think everyone in the league is pretty equal again this season,†Hiskey said. “Everyone has a few people back, but no one is head-and-shoulders above the rest.†Are Brea’s newcomers feeling any pressure to win a third title? “Not now, but I think that will begin to surface when we reach the league season,†he said. The Wildcats’ top returning player is Selinske, who hit .329 with eight doubles and a home run. Ott is an outstanding defensive shortstop who hit only .198. The rest of the team is in transition. Feine and Badillo are infielders who have converted to the outfield. “That’s our potential weaknesses,†Hiskey said. “Our inexperience and trying to convert people to new positions. But I think our pitching, defense and hitting consistency will be our strengths.†Hiskey said Smith and Noyes were outstanding junior varsity pitchers last season, with Smith throwing a no-hitter against Western.
