Santa Ana Valley Fades, Loses to Lynwood
SANTA ANA — Santa Ana Valley stayed close to Lynwood for two quarters Tuesday night, but the top-seeded team in the Southern Section Division I-AA pulled away early in the second half and rolled to a 74-53 victory.
Early in the game, Santa Ana Valley (13-11) had success beating Lynwood’s press for easy baskets, but Lynwood’s defense wore down the Falcons as the game progressed and began forcing turnovers that were usually converted into layups.
“They were just too athletic, and too big,†Santa Ana Valley Coach Rich Prospero said. “We just couldn’t execute against that kind of talent.â€
Steve Singleton led Santa Ana Valley with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Nathan Ware led a balanced attack for Lynwood (23-6) with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
