PREP BASKETBALL SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFFS : Burroughs Rallies to Defeat Mira Costa
Scott Hansen scored five points in the last eight seconds to lead Ridgecrest Burroughs to a 67-66 victory over Manhattan Beach Mira Costa in a Southern Section Division II-A second-round playoff game Tuesday night at Manhattan Beach.
Burroughs (16-6) trailed, 66-62, but Hansen, who finished with 20 points, made a three-point shot with eight seconds left and a layup as time expired.
Mira Costa finished 18-7.
Pasadena 72, San Bernardino 65--Tyrone Williams and Donald Guyton each scored 19 points to lead the Bulldogs over fourth-seeded San Bernardino (22-5) in a I-A game at Pasadena.
Pasadena (19-8) made six consecutive free throws in the final minute to extend a 67-65 lead.
Tustin 50, Cerritos Gahr 48--Reserve forward Rod Scheuerman made two free throws with four seconds remaining in a II-AA game at Gahr.
Tustin (21-7) trailed, 48-39, with 3 minutes 27 seconds left, but rallied for 11 consecutive points. Gahr (18-9) had a chance to win, but Brandon Titus missed a three-point shot at the buzzer.
La Canada 82, Moorpark 54--Top-seeded La Canada (23-2) jumped to a 17-2 lead in the first four minutes of a III-A game at La Canada.
Richard Mandeville had 20 points and 12 rebounds, Jim Evans added 17 points and Ryan Asplund had 16 for La Canada.
Lynwood 74, Santa Ana Valley 53--The Knights forced Santa Ana Valley into 18 turnovers in a I-AA game at Santa Ana.
Nathan Ware, a 6-7 junior forward, scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds and three blocks for top-seeded Lynwood (23-5).
South Torrance 64, Monrovia 62--Kevin Tsau, who had 20 points, scored on a layup with 35 seconds left in overtime to break a 62-62 tie in a III-AA game at South Torrance (25-6).
Hacienda Heights Wilson 80, Torrance Bishop Montgomery 64--Damien Jones, a junior guard, scored 18 of his 39 points in the third quarter as Wilson (21-7) coasted in a II-A game at Wilson.
Jones also had 15 rebounds, and Bobby Williams added 14 points and 10 assists for Wilson.
San Dimas 64, Pasadena Blair 41--The Saints made 17 of 18 free throws in the fourth period to secure the victory in a III-A game at San Dimas.
Junior forward Brad Alley had 20 points and sophomore guard Jeremy Veal added 17 for second-seeded San Dimas (21-5).
Long Beach Wilson 70, Montebello Schurr 63--Peter Marcos scored 32 points for the Bruins (21-7) in a I-A game at Schurr. Jerrod Parrot had 14 points and 18 rebounds for the Spartans (18-7).
