In other second-round Southern Section playoff games:
Western 56, Crespi 54--Western (18-7) sank 13 of 15 free throws in the fourth period of a Division III-AA game. Crespi (15-9), the Mission League co-champion, tried to force the tempo by pressing Western the length of the floor the entire game. Although the Celts forced 17 turnovers, the patient Pioneers continually beat the defense for layups.
Crespi, which shot just 20% from the field in the first half and trailed, 21-13, at halftime, received game-high 27 points from senior guard Rob Leff, who sank 11 of 19 shots and had three three-point baskets.
