RIDING TRIM: The future is now, temporarily, for some Orange County bus riders: You don’t ask the driver for a transfer ticket, you get it from a machine. . . . They’re called Ticker Reader Issue Machines (TRIM) and county transportation officials will put them on 47 buses, next to the driver, for an experimental month--starting Monday. These machines will only do transfers, and plans are to install them on all buses by July 1. After that the machines will be programmed to handle passes and coupons.
