School Petition Is Not Worthy

From time to time when shopping in Simi Valley, I have been asked to sign various petitions. Because this practice of “signature gathering†really irritates me, I usually say “no†and go on my way.

On numerous occasions lately I have been asked to sign a petition having to do with parental choice of schools. I have observed numerous people signing this petition without much thought. This has been very irritating because this initiative really is not about choice, but about a group of people who would propose to dismantle public education and replace it with a system of vouchers for private secular and religious schools.

Do we really want to drain billions of tax dollars from our already financially strapped public schools and community colleges and subsidize the education of the wealthiest families while damaging educational opportunities for all other students? I would encourage everyone to check out the facts before signing this petition.
