Police were trying to determine Thursday whether the shooting deaths of two San Diego teen-agers Wednesday morning involved a double suicide or murder-suicide, a spokesman said.
Phong Tran, 19, a student at San Diego City College and his girlfriend, Loan Nguyen, 17, were found shot to death about 11:30 a.m. in the bedroom of Tran’s apartment on 51st Street in East San Diego Wednesday, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Found lying side-by-side, both had been shot once in the head, Robinson said.
Nguyen died at the scene and Tran was rushed to Mercy Hospital, where he died a short time later, Robinson said.
A .38-caliber pistol and a suicide note were left behind, Robinson said.
