SMALL FACES: Aerosmith is recording in Los Angeles with producer Bruce Fairbairn, who also did the band’s last two albums. But don’t look for the new one until summer at the earliest. . . . Sonic Youth has also entered a Los Angeles studio. Butch Vig is producing, with Andy Wallace slated to mix the recordings--the same team that worked on Nirvana’s “Nevermind.” . . .
Heart has opened its own hometown studio, Bad Animals Seattle. Its first client: Heart, scheduled to start recording a new album on April Fool’s Day.
An attitude survey of college students who read Spin magazine--published in the March issue--revealed that people who feel bad about the state of the country tend to feel good about the state of music. Incidentally, rock ‘n’ roll and alternative rock are the student/reader favorites, while country and heavy-metal fared the worst.
