Warrington Drives Positive Spirit to Upset Victory at Los Alamitos
Trainer Matias Ruiz put driver Steve Warrington behind his top pacer Positive Spirit and the 5-year-old son of Jambooger responded with an upset victory in Saturday night’s $15,000 Invitational Pace at Los Alamitos.
At 9-1, the fourth choice in the betting, Positive Spirit got a perfect trip behind last week’s winner Positron, then moved out at the top of the stretch and outpaced Positron to the wire for a 1 1/2-length victory in 1:56.1/5. Positron held on for second and Heavy Tipper finished third. Vance Lobell, the even-money favorite, was unable to make up ground and finished last in the five-horse field.
Positive Spirit paid $21.20.
