PREP ROUNDUP : Mater Dei Takes Angelus League With Victory

Yuzo Nishihara’s second-half goal gave Mater Dei a 1-0 victory over Loyola in an Angelus League boys’ soccer match Saturday at Mater Dei High School.
The victory clinched the league championship for the Monarchs (19-2-2, 8-0).
In other Angelus League boys’ soccer matches:
Santa Margarita 1, Bishop Amat 0 (OT)--Scott Carter scored on a penalty kick with two minutes remaining in the second half of overtime for visiting Santa Margarita (4-4 in league).
Servite 4, St. John Bosco 1--Clay Harty scored three goals for host Servite (8-4-4, 4-4), giving him 18 for the season. St. John Bosco is 4-4 in league.
In Angelus League girls’ soccer:
Walnut 3, Santa Margarita 0--Alison Murphy scored two goals for host Walnut (7-0-1 in league). Santa Margarita is 8-9-3, 3-4-1.
In Sunset League girls’ basketball:
Edison 55, Santa Ana 38--Leila Ryan had 16 points, seven assists and five steals for host Edison (11-9, 6-4), which played without leading scorer Melanie Iwamasa (sprained ankle). Cynthia Trotter had 11 for Santa Ana (7-10, 1-9).
Huntington Beach 55, Fountain Valley 41--Clare Walker had 20 points and 11 rebounds for the visiting Oilers (14-9, 8-3). Julie Murdent had 19 points and 12 rebounds for Fountain Valley (11-12, 5-5).
In Tournament of Champions field hockey:
Santa Ana 2, Azusa 0--Gina Sanchez and Patty Garcia scored second-half goals, and Angie Gutirrez made six saves as the Saints improved to 10-9-4.
