James (Thunderbird) Davis, 53, a blues singer. Born James Huston in Pritchard, Ala., Davis began with a band led by the late Guitar Slim. He later played with or opened for such blues greats as Muddy Waters and B.B. King. He recorded the hit “Blue Monday Blues†in the 1960s. He dropped from the scene in the 1970s. In 1989, he recorded his first full album, “Checkout Time,†which Billboard called the “blues comeback of the year.†In St. Paul, Minn., on Friday of a heart attack.
