Race-Related Brawl Injures Jail Inmate
One inmate was injured Monday during a race-related brawl at a county jail in Lancaster, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.
The fight began shortly before 1 p.m. when a black inmate moved to the front of the lunch line, Deputy Irma Becerra said. A Latino inmate challenged him and a fight erupted between 12 Latino and 18 black inmates.
The brawl lasted about two minutes and ended when 15 deputies entered the yard, Becerra said. No force was used.
The injured inmate was treated at the jail’s infirmary for a swollen eye.
At Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho, a county jail in Castaic, 14 inmates and three deputies were injured when a brawl erupted Saturday night between black and Latino inmates, the 18th race-related brawl there since June.
