Hometown favorite Duncan Kennedy edged Olympic teammate Tim Wiley by a fraction of a second at Lake Placid, N.Y., to win the fifth event on the World Cup luge tour and move into first place in the overall standings with one race remaining.
Kennedy’s time for two runs down the Mount Van Hoevenberg run was 1:25.527, good enough to beat Wiley by 0.235 seconds. Agris Elerts, representing Latvia, finished third in 1:25.762.
Cammy Myler, also of Lake Placid, easily won the women’s competition, finishing in 1:16.476.
In doubles, Wendel Suckow of Marquette, Mich., and Bill Tavares of Tracy, Calif., won in 1:16.150.
