Duarte : Rules on Garage Sale Signs
The City Council last week gave preliminary approval to looser regulations on garage sales.
After a public hearing, the council approved an ordinance allowing residents to post as many as three signs, which may be on property away from the sale location if property owners approve.
Signs can go up after noon the day before the sale, and they must be removed by 6 p.m. on the last day of the sale. No signs may be on cars, however.
The city currently allows only one sign, on the property where the sale takes place. But city planner Steve Sizemore said more than half of those who hold sales ignore this restriction.
The city will continue to require permits for garage and yard sales.
The proposed ordinance will come before the council for a second reading Jan. 28. If adopted, it will take effect 30 days later.
