* Ronald Bates has begun a two-year term as chairman of Martin Luther Hospital, succeeding Craig Beam, a Santa Ana businessman. Bates is project consultant for the city of Anaheim and mayor of Los Alamitos. He joined the hospital board of directors in 1984.
