In Sunset League field hockey:
Santa Ana 3, Newport Harbor 0--Gina Sanchez scored three goals for host Santa Ana (3-3-1). Her sister, goalkeeper Blanca Sanchez, had four saves. Kathleen O’Flynn had six saves for the Sailors.
In nonleague boys’ basketball:
Heritage Christian 97, La Verne Calvary Baptist 29--The Patriots set a school single-game scoring record and Ryan Drabek scored 16 of his 19 points in the second quarter as Heritage Christian, which led, 14-10, after the first quarter, outscored the Cougars, 35-3, in the second quarter.
Steve Acheson led all scorers with 23 points as the host Patriots improved to 5-3.
