COSTA MESA — A man and a woman were found shot to death in a hotel room Thursday in what police are investigating as a double homicide.
Maids discovered the bodies in a room at the Hacienda Travelodge, 1951 Newport Blvd., about 1:50 p.m. after the couple failed to check out, police said.
Police withheld their names, identifying them only as a 19-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man. Investigators said they were not sure of the relationship between the two.
Investigators found a weapon in the room, said Costa Mesa Police Capt. Tom Lazar, but he declined to say if it was used in the shooting. Lazar would not elaborate on a possible motive.
The man drove to the hotel in a burgundy Nissan Stanza, which police shipped from the hotel on a truck.
The hotel owner said the man checked into the room Wednesday.
The deaths shocked guests of the 58-room hotel, who said they did not hear or see anything suspicious.
