Stanford Coach Dennis Green will meet today with Tom Donahoe, director of football development for the Pittsburgh Steelers, about the team’s coaching position. Green earlier talked with the Minnesota Vikings.
Stanford officials have discussed a contract extension with Green, who has two years remaining on his current contract.
New Orleans Saint fullback Craig (Ironhead) Heyward pleaded not guilty to charges that he assaulted two women outside a suburban New Orleans bar Oct. 11. Judge George Giacobbe set a Feb. 24 hearing date for motions in the case.
Bobby Ross, new coach of the San Diego Chargers, named the first two members of his staff, appointing Chuck Priefer the special teams coach and putting John Misciagna in charge of quality control.
Both were assistants to Ross at Georgia Tech.
Philadelphia Eagle offensive line coach Bill Walsh and his assistant Dan Neal will not be back next year. Walsh, 64, the Eagles’ offensive line coach since 1987, is retiring from football after 32 seasons as a coach. Neal was not retained by the Eagles, the team said.
