ESPN and ABC analyst Jim Valvano, who formerly coached at North Carolina State, said he met with New Jersey Net owners Joe Taub and Jerry Cohen on Dec. 16 about replacing Bill Fitch as coach of the team.

“I feel at times it was a dream sequence from ‘Dallas’ and I feel I’ve just awakened,” Valvano, 45, said about the ensuing media circus that ended with Fitch in place and Valvano still on television.
