Gene Milford, 89, who began in films as a stuntman and title writer in the days of silent pictures and at his retirement 50 years later had won two Academy Awards for editing the 1937 “Lost Horizon” and the 1954 “On the Waterfront.” Milford, who produced the widely heralded “World at War” for the Office of War Information during World War II, also worked as a TV director for “The Faye Emerson Show,” “Omnibus” and “See It Now,” the series featuring Edward R. Murrow. In 1987 he was given the first American Cinema Editors Career Achievement Award. In Santa Monica on Dec. 23.
