PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Host Marina Beats Mater Dei for Title
Marina won its boys’ soccer tournament with a 2-0 victory over Mater Dei in the championship match Monday at Marina High School.
The Vikings took a 1-0 first-half lead on Daryl Florgan’s goal off of a crossing pass from Marc Arocharen.
Marina (9-2-2) increased the lead to 2-0 in the second half on Jose Monroy’s goal, which came off an assist from Dan Judkins on a corner kick.
Santa Barbara San Marcos took third place with a 2-1 overtime victory over Palos Verdes Peninsula.
In the fifth-place game:
Anaheim 1, Huntington Beach 0--William Monge scored in the second half to lead Anaheim (6-1-7).
Richard Reyes had 12 saves for Anaheim. Matt Goldman had 13 saves for Huntington Beach (7-4-2).
In the championship game of the Brea-Olinda tournament:
Cerritos 2, Edison 0--Eddie Lewis scored a goal in each half to lead Cerritos to the title at Brea-Olinda High School.
