GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP
In the third-place game of the Marina tournament:
Ocean View 65, Mission Viejo 57--Kristy Bell scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds to lead Ocean View (9-3). Tricia Lindquist scored 15 points, including three three-pointers, for the Seahawks. Kelly McGlothlin led Mission Viejo with 22 points.
In the Costa Mesa tournament:
Capistrano Valley 65, San Clemente 46--Second-ranked Capistrano Valley overcame a second-quarter lapse against San Clemente (7-4) in the championship game at Costa Mesa High.
The Cougars jumped to a 20-5 lead in the first quarter. San Clemente Coach Mary Mulligan, who was released from the hospital Friday after giving birth to her second child last week, watched from the sidelines.
San Clemente’s Kristin McOwen accounted for seven points in the second quarter, but Capistrano Valley stopped McOwen in the third and fourth quarters and tournament MVP Alisa Farr, who had two three-point shots, scored 10 of her 12 points.
Guard Angie White led Capistrano Valley (12-1) with 16 points. Nine Cougar players scored.
“In the second quarter we had a little lapse,†said Capistrano Valley Coach Harlan Peet. “The thing was it didn’t last very long and Alisa Farr did a great job of running the show.â€
