Trippet, the only returning starter from the Vikings’ Sunset League championship team, is helping to ensure Marina continues its success. Last week, she averaged 18 points in three victories as the Vikings advanced to the championship game of their tournament. She had 14 points and 18 rebounds in a 64-49 victory over Ocean View in the semifinals Saturday. Friday, Trippet had 13 rebounds and 28 points, including two free throws with two seconds remaining that sealed a 64-53 victory. Trippet had been called for traveling seconds earlier but Marina regained possession, Trippet was fouled and awarded two free-throw shots. “She had a lot of good plays that game and a few that weren’t so great,†Marina Coach Pete Bonny said. “I guess she put everything out of her mind after the traveling call.â€
Other top performers:
* Denise Kenyon, who scored five goals in El Toro’s five victories in the Foothill Excalibur soccer tournament. Kenyon scored once in each of El Toro’s victories over Simi Valley and Edison in the round-robin championship round and was named to the all-tournament team.
* Kristin McOwen, who averaged 19 points as San Clemente won three games in the Costa Mesa tournament.
* Amy Peterson, who scored a goal in Marina’s 2-1 soccer victory over Mission Viejo in the championship of the Cerritos tournament and was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
