New Rock Club Will Open in Cypress Jan. 11

A once-a-week alternative-rock club, dubbed Martini’s, will debut Jan. 11 at the Meadowlark restaurant in Cypress. Promoter Chris Martin says he plans to do shows on Saturday nights in the 300-capacity venue at 6197 Ball Road. Headlining the first show is the all-female band L7.

Martin, who formerly ran the Club Cannibal shows at the Meadowlark Country Club in Huntington Beach, said he will feature mainly local and Los Angeles-based talent.

Martini’s will be going after the same clientele as the similarly formatted New Klub on the Block at the Newport Roadhouse in Costa Mesa. After a successful first year, NKOTB recently expanded from once-a-week shows on Friday to Saturday night concerts as well.

Martin said he isn’t concerned about the competition. “I’ve never had trouble getting people to a club. People don’t go to the same place two nights in a row. They get bored. We’ll see what happens.” The L-7 show starts at 9 p.m., with tickets $9. Information: (714) 960-0721.
