Penn State’s first full day in Arizona to practice for the Fiesta Bowl didn’t do the Nittany Lions much good, Coach Joe Paterno said.
“I can’t remember whether we’ve always been this bad the second day of a bowl game,” he said. “We’ll have to see tomorrow whether we’ll get better. We weren’t very good today.”
No. 6 Penn State (10-2) plays No. 10 Tennessee (9-2) Wednesday at Tempe, Ariz.
Tennessee Coach Johnny Majors ran his team through more than two hours of full-speed drills. “I think everybody reported on time,” he said. “There were no lost souls this morning.”
Paterno and Majors said their teams were in good health, with no serious injuries emerging from the initial round of practices, though Paterno said some players had gained a few pounds during the layoff.
