VENTURA : Cystic Fibrosis Program to Begin
The Memorial Miller Children’s Hospital Cystic Fibrosis Center will establish a satellite program at the Ventura County Medical Center in January.
The satellite program will be 75 miles from Memorial Miller’s flagship center in Long Beach but will serve as a treatment referral site for those living in the greater Ventura County area. Patients who choose to use the Ventura center will also be considered Memorial Miller patients.
The Memorial Miller center was accredited by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in 1987 for having the services and equipment necessary to be considered a “center of excellence†for cystic fibrosis treatment as well as a training center for health care, officials said.
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease that appears in childhood and is characterized by chronic lung disease. There is no cure for the disease, and treatment is aimed at relieving the patient’s symptoms.
