Youth Slain, Girl Hurt in Two Attacks : Gangs: A teen-ager riding in his father’s van is fatally wounded. A 10-year-old is in critical condition after shots were fired at her brother’s car.
Two gang-related Christmas shootings were blamed for the death of a 13-year-old boy in Rosemead and the wounding of a 10-year-old girl in Hollywood, authorities said.
Debra Briceno, 10, was riding with her brother in the 700 block of North Manhattan Place late Christmas Eve when his truck was hit by shots, Hollywood police said. The 28-year-old brother, whom they declined to identify, was at the wheel when a car drew alongside and the shooting began. Debra was in critical condition with a head wound at Childrens Hospital, said nursing supervisor Kathy Stevenson.
In Rosemead, Rudy Revoloreo, 13, of Los Angeles was shot Wednesday morning while accompanying his father on a Christmas visit, Deputy Mary Landreth said.
A lone gunman walked up and fired at the passing van in the 2600 block of Brighton Street, striking the boy, who was on the passenger side of his father’s van, Landreth said.
The youth died three hours later at County-USC Medical Center.
Deputies said there were no indications that Revoloreo was a gang member, but they believe the attacker probably was. Deputies said they had few leads on the assailant.
