Thrift Regulators to Allow Nationwide Branches: Government regulators said they plan to remove the last barriers to nationwide branching for federally chartered thrift institutions. They also proposed making it easier for savings and loans to make construction loans on “presold†homes that developers have yet to build. Timothy Ryan, director of the Office of Thrift Supervision, said the new rules will strengthen the troubled thrift industry.
