Thousand Oaks Residents to Get Anti-Crime Help

The Thousand Oaks City Council has agreed to help a Newbury Park condominium complex develop a crime-fighting plan.
The council adopted a plan Tuesday night to monitor police calls and code-enforcement complaints lodged by residents of the 540-unit Las Casitas condominium complex, located off Hillcrest Drive and Ventu Park Road.
Councilman Frank Schillo said he asked the city to come up with a plan after hearing many complaints at a meeting to form a Neighborhood Watch group earlier this year. Residents said they were concerned about graffiti and gang activity after a Thousand Oaks woman was killed in a drive-by shooting in May.
The city also has received complaints about houses crowded with too many residents, Schillo said.
Officials agreed to meet with the homeowners association and managers of the complex about establishing security patrols.
