Los Angeles police Monday named a suspect in the killing of a 23-year-old North Hollywood man stabbed in a park.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Jose Jurado, 31, a transient, in connection with the Nov. 18 slaying of Alexander Mendez in North Hollywood Park, said Detective Mike Coffey.

Witnesses said Mendez and Jurado were arguing when Mendez pushed Jurado, who then stabbed Mendez and fled, Coffey said.

Jurado, who frequents parks in the San Fernando Valley and central Los Angeles, was described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall, with four of his upper front teeth capped in silver, Coffey said. His nickname is Pajaro, Spanish for bird, because of his beaklike nose, Coffey said.
