A fight erupted among dozens of Latino and black inmates at the County Jail in Vista, leaving 11 injured from the melee, which lasted more than 30 minutes, the Sheriff’s Department reported Friday.
None of the injuries in Thursday night’s incident was serious. It took more than an hour to return calm to that portion of the jail, deputies said. The cell bloc in the southern unit holds 50 to 60 inmates. Jail population exceeds 900.
“Fights like these are not real common, but they do happen from time to time,” Sgt. David Corn said. “It was probably inmates agitating other inmates. But it was not gang related.”
