Celebrating the Poinsettia

The Poinsettia Festival, a daylong event celebrating the flower that put Encinitas on the map, will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday on First Street in downtown Encinitas. Booths of fine art, folk art, crafts, poinsettias, flowers, plants and gourmet foods will be featured.

A plant and flower show featuring poinsettias, Christmas trees, locally grown plants and flowers will be held throughout the day in the Holiday Marketplace set up along First Street. The show includes the Paul Ecke Ranch Poinsettia Heritage Exhibit.

A free Santa’s workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Lumberyard shopping center will give children the opportunity to make their own ornament or holiday stocking. Santa will visit the workshop every hour on the hour.

A wreath making workshop for adults will be held at 3 p.m. at the Lumberyard.

Musical entertainment will be held throughout the day at the Poinsettia Stage at First and H streets. Concerts include barber shop holiday harmony by Cahoots, vintage jazz and swing by Tobacco Road, and international children’s music by Paul and Carla Roberts.

There will be llama rides and a critter’s corner from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lumberyard. The day’s festivities are sponsored by the Downtown Encinitas MainStreet Assn. and The Lumberyard shopping center.
