TIRANA, Albania — Albanian Deputy Prime Minister Gramoz Pashko appealed to the world Friday for shoes for Albania’s barefoot children this winter.
“We have urgent need for shoes for children,” Pashko said.
“Pupils cannot attend school. Outside, in freezing temperatures, their feet would get blue from cold.”
The government has estimated that 240,000 pairs of shoes are needed for Albanian children this winter.
“All the three shoe factories the country has have stopped working since May due to a shortage of raw materials (and) adhesive,” said Edmond Gorenxa of the Ministry of Light Industry.
