Hire Police, Don’t Buy Back Guns

Re “Cash for Guns Plan Studied in Santa Ana” (Nov. 13): Santa Ana now has funds to “buy” guns, but no money to hire more police officers which Santa Ana badly needs?
Seems to me the hiring of more police personnel would be more of a deterrent to crime than the buying of guns by the city. It would also give the residents of Santa Ana more protection.
Santa Ana officials, get your priorities in order. Buying guns isn’t the top priority in protecting the people of Santa Ana. Hiring more police officers would make more sense.
