In part of a continuing management shake-up at Lotus Development Corp., John Landry, 44, is replacing Frank King, 52, as senior vice president and chief technology officer at the Cambridge, Mass.-based software supplier. Landry leaves a similar post at Dun & Bradstreet Software, a major seller of business software.

Earlier this week, the firm announced that Kelsey Selander, vice president of marketing, was defecting to Borland. And in September, Don Casey, Lotus’ vice president for spreadsheets, moved to Wang to head up software development.

President Jim Manzi described the departure of King, who lost some of his authority earlier this year after an erosion of market share of Lotus’ trademark 1-2-3 program, as a “mutually agreed decision” and praised his performance. But analysts wondered whether he was taking the fall for Lotus’ late delivery of the 1-2-3 program for Windows and loss of market share to competitor Borland.

Landry said he would be a “point man” for Lotus, which he said “somehow gets a bad rap even when it’s doing well.” “I am a passionate evangelist,” he said of his upcoming role as a public spokesman for the company. King was not available for comment.
