Quotas have always been popular in this alleged land of opportunity for all.

Moreover, quotas continue to maintain the inherited privileges of wealthy and powerful white men. Other ethnics, once trampled by the elite, have risen over time to the heights of success.

In vivid contrast to these groups, blacks, who’ve earned seniority here since 1619, have had only one tool to protect them from the systemic and virulent racism that manifests itself as discrimination in employment, housing, education and other areas of life in this country: affirmative action.

Used as a race-baiting tool by Ronald Reagan and Jesse Helms and now the born-again, sheetless David Duke, affirmative action was created during the Lyndon Johnson presidency because conscience-driven whites and blacks committed themselves to redressing hosts of wrongs that enslave and shackle a people whose only crime is their loyalty to this nation and their sterling contributions to its arts, letters, sciences and very essence.
