Teamsters Seek to Represent Times Workers: Teamsters Local 986 filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board seeking certification as collective bargaining representative for mail-room production employees at The Times. In the petition, the Teamsters asserted that more than 30% of the mail-room workers expressed interest in being represented. Last week, The Times announced that it would lay off or cut the pay of 260 part-time mail room workers in a restructuring that would create 82 new full-time jobs to be filled by custodians whose jobs are being eliminated.
