Pay Cuts for L.A. Teachers
Why are on-school support personnel being so totally ignored? Teachers are constantly urging board members to make cuts from administration. I am not an administrator but I do work in administration. I am but a lowly secretary. After 22 years of service to the district, the one thing that’s apparent to me is that the board members have an obvious disregard for on-school support personnel like me, and that teachers in the classroom don’t care if my salary is cut as long as theirs isn’t. No one is taking the secretary, cafeteria worker, custodian, bus driver or school police into consideration.
I am sure that everyone knows that there would be devastating effects if these employees walked off the job for even one day. Where salary is concerned, we are at the bottom of the totem pole, yet we have been (and are still being) slapped with layoffs, salary cuts and position losses. I am sick and tired of this unfair treatment. Where my job is concerned, I’ve forgotten what it feels like to belong.
