Santiago Scores Late to Defeat La Quinta

GARDEN GROVE — Mike Carrasco’s 74-yard touchdown pass to Enele Scanlan in the fourth quarter gave Santiago High School a 14-7 victory over La Quinta in a Garden Grove League game Friday night at Bolsa Grande Stadium.
The winning score came with 4 minutes 45 seconds to play. Dan Agramont, who had missed two field-goal attempts from 23 and 51 yards, kicked the extra point for the Cavaliers (4-6, 4-3).
La Quinta (4-6, 3-4) had a chance to take the lead at 7:03 of the fourth quarter but David Matlock’s 30-yard field-goal attempt was wide.
Late in the first quarter, La Quinta’s Danny Torres recovered a fumble by Travis Tisor at the Aztecs’ 44. Three plays later, Kenny Granger threw a lateral to Sam Barbee, who threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Cal Daniels for a 7-0 La Quinta lead.
Santiago tied the score, 7-7, tn the third quarter. James Laban intercepted a Granger pass at the Cavaliers’ 28 and returned it to the eight-yard line. Two plays later, Minh Nguyen scored.
