Strunz Helps Canyon Rally to Tie Foothill

ORANGE — Canyon sophomore quarterback Gunnar Strunz rallied the Commanches from a 21-0 third-quarter deficit to a 21-21 tie with Foothill in the Century League finale for both teams Thursday night at El Modena High School.
Strunz completed 14 of 29 passes for three touchdowns, 250 yards and three interceptions. Twelve of those completions, for 234 yards, were in the second half. Strunz hit fullback Jeff Brunswig with a 35-yard scoring pass, and Brunswig kicked the extra point to tie the score with 2 minutes 23 seconds to play.
Foothill (2-7-1, 1-3-1 in league) took a 21-0 lead on quarterback Tim Chaix’s 33-yard pass-run play to Rob Higby, a one-yard plunge by Mike Busalacchi and a third-quarter eight-yard reverse by Robert Anthony Lark.
Canyon (3-5-2, 1-3-1) capitalized on three second-half Foothill fumbles to rally. Strunz hit Damon Harvey with a 43-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and D.J. Marshall with a 15-yard scoring pass in the fourth quarter.
