Cypress Routs Chaffey in Barstow Tournament

David Boyle scored 21 points Thursday to help Cypress College to an 84-55 victory over Chaffey in the first round of the Barstow men’s basketball tournament.

Boyle, a sophomore transfer from Holy Cross who played for Mater Dei High School, was one of five Cypress players in double figures. Robbie Shelton, a 6-foot-7 freshman from Western High, came off the bench and had 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Cypress (1-0) will face Dixie of St. George, Utah, in a semifinal at 4:30 p.m. today.
