Air Force Uniforms
The Air Force in its desire “to look like commercial airline pilots” (Nov. 1), to quote Gen. Merrill A. McPeak, has already spent $1.5 million of taxpayers’ money just for the design of new dress uniforms.
No mention was made about the millions of dollars that the Air Force will next spend to acquire these uniforms. Officers are provided uniform allowances and enlisted personnel are issued uniforms.
Last year our budget deficit was $268 billion and next year’s is projected to be even larger, yet the Air Force heedlessly will spend millions for dress uniforms like there is no tomorrow. The Air Force should stress a tight budget priority instead. After all these are recessional, deep-debt times.
