Wyatt’s Passes, Runs Pave Way for Woodbridge

IRVINE — James Wyatt threw one touchdown pass and ran for another to lead Woodbridge High to a 21-13 Sea View League victory over University Friday night at Irvine Stadium.
Wyatt completed 12 of 14 passes for 147 yards and Glen Edwards rushed for 96 yards for Woodbridge (5-2-1, 2-1-1).
Woodbridge took an early lead when Jake Michel recovered a fumble by Sammy Hunt and returned the ball 70 yards for a touchdown early in the first quarter.
University (4-5, 1-3) tied the game, 7-7, when Todd Anderson scored from one yard out with 5 minutes 53 seconds left in the first quarter.
But Woodbridge moved ahead, 14-7, on a six-yard touchdown pass from Wyatt to Scott Coker in the second quarter.
Wyatt’s four-yard touchdown run with 33 seconds left in the second quarter gave the Warriors a 21-7 lead.
University closed the gap to 21-13 on a pair of field goals by Nathan Morealle, one a 37-yarder midway through the third quarter and the other a 32-yarder with 9:31 left in the game.
The Trojans got the ball back on their own nine-yard line with three minutes left, but the drive stalled at their own 40.
Woodbridge, which leads the series, 5-4, won despite being penalized 14 times for 155 yards.
