Second-Quarter Scoring Barrage Lifts Kennedy

GARDEN GROVE — Kennedy’s three-touchdown barrage in the second quarter sparked the Irish to a 30-7 victory over Bolsa Grande in the Garden Grove League opener for both teams Friday at Bolsa Grande Stadium.
Irish quarterback John Guthrie threw for two touchdowns during the second quarter. The 6-foot-2 junior completed seven of 11 passes for 133 yards.
Kennedy’s Ray Mobley ran for two touchdowns. He scored from one yard out in the second quarter.
Guthrie connected on a 30-yard scoring strike to Wesley Morris and hit Bob Deck for a touchdown from 25 yards out to give Kennedy a 30-7 halftime advantage.
Bolsa Grande scored on its first possession of the game, driving 80 yards in eight plays. Bryan Taylor scored on a 27-yard run.
Kennedy took the ensuing possession 69 yards on three plays with Mobley scoring his first touchdown on a 35-yard run.
